Positive: This is an excellent affordable place to stay while at Varkala. It is a new homestay built next to the existing Mud Apples homestay next door. The location is 1.1km from Varkala beach which was about a 10 minute walk, maybe 15, but definitely definitely very easy on foot. The homestay is clean and tidy and well designed and is a great option for young adults and backpackers seeking accomodation in Varkala that is not wildly expensive. I had a room on the top level and while it did not have airconditioning, if you opened the windows you got a cool breeze. Nearby on the main road there was a great place to eat called Food Palace Restaurant that I got Chicken Tikka for 300 rupees. It was cooked on coals snd was delicious. I went there again the next night and had spicy chicken fry and noodles around the same price. What was really great about this place was the owner Raffi. He seemed like a really great guy and was very attentive to making sure guests had a great stay. I was a bit worried about mosquitos so he helped me get a bottle of insect repellant. He also gave me a ride to the beach when I arrived which was nice. Unfortunately, my ininerary meant that I had to keep moving (I am now at Munroe Island, which I got to by train from Varkala) otherwise I would have been really happy to stay a few more days.

Negative: Nothing. It is well priced backpacker accomodation that represents a real bargain compared to the prices of hotels and homestays closer to the beach. I am glad I stayed here. Villa Mud Apples was really good.
